adamleighann10sit(April 7, 2010) A decade ago the Internet was still in its infancy, while ways to use it for personality promotion and radio station hype hadn’t yet been realized. KBIG 104 (now MY/fm) morning personality Leigh Ann Adam (co-hosted with Charlie Tuna) was expecting her first child. It seemed quite a logical thing to have lasik eye surgery performed in order to endorse the doctor and the procedure, but would Leigh Ann allow the birthing procedure to be carried live?

Ten years ago this week KBIG’s birth site had over 6,000,000 hits watching the Internet as Leigh Ann’s baby was being born. The drama of the day occurred when doctors announced the baby was in the wrong position and they decided to deliver him via C-Section. As the afternoon wore on, the BIG BabyCam was receiving approximately nine thousand hits per minute, enough to crash the server of a partner company hired to help keep track of who was logging in. "Most of the time I didn't even think about the fact that the camera was there," said a weary Leigh Ann.

adamleighannbabypix8"The mood at the station was fantastic, everyone on the staff was so behind Leigh Ann and wishing her the best," remarked KBIG gm Ed Krampf, now CBS/LA market manager. "It was definitely not a business-as-usual sort of day."

Caden Chase Adam weighed in at 7 pounds, 8 ounces.

Bill Vigus from Rancho Cucamonga got caught up in the hype and wrote: "Well, as embarrassed as I am to admit it, you finally got me hooked up to Leigh Ann's KBIG moment! So, as exciting as her hospital room is to observe, I punched up KBIG’s Music and Features. The page opens, and the banner ad is for ISIS breast enhancement. When everything is combined, it appears ‘K-BIG...for the breasts you've always wanted.’ How much stranger can it get?" asks Bill.

adamleighannCadenDouglas McEwan questioned the reason for the baby birth being so public. "I'm happy for Leigh Ann Adam, and I hope she has a healthy, happy baby, but why on earth would I want to watch its birth?" questioned Douglas. "If it were my child, I'd want to be there, otherwise, yuck! The miracle of birth generally involves blood, screaming, and strangers in surgical masks. Anybody want to watch my open heart surgery, which didn't involve screaming? I thought not. Whatever happened to privacy in intimate moments?"

Leigh Ann is now working in Dallas radio at 103.7 LITE FM. She sent a photo of Caden (l) as he celebrates his 10th birthday. “I still get asked about that broadcast all the time,” emailed Leigh Ann. “And by the way, my afternoon show is #1 persons 25-54 and women 25-54. My sidekick Julie and I have so much fun talking about all the things that woman talk about.”
